Letters from readers

To the editor:

The letter from Jerry Crew published in the July 20 edition of Farm News very accurately pointed out a dichotomy between the political views of your readers and the political views of your Opinion page writers (Kruse and Guebert). Having been a reader of your publication for some time now, I have wondered if having this difference between readers and writers was intentional or not. But it is quite obvious that Mr. Guebert is a life long liberal with a consistent record of disliking farmers practicing intensive production practices, and his distrust of commodity groups and checkoffs. It is easier to understand the views of Mr. Kruse as he simply opposes anything that threatens his agricultural enterprises (ethanol and soybean production) since it might lower his income. Personally, I would prefer to see more balance in the opinion page writers for Farm News. Now, I rarely read an entire article of either Guebert or Kruse because they are boring and predictable.
